Pregnant women going through gestational diabetes has become very common these days. Women who never had diabetes can have it while they are pregnant. Gestational diabetes may cause many health-related problems or more diseases in the body that can affect the baby as well as the mother.

It is sometimes hard to detect gestational diabetes, especially at early stages. After 24 to 28 weeks of pregnancy, these types of problems are noticed. When a person has gestational diabetes, that person should immediately consult a doctor and a dietician. Dieticians can provide better meal plans as the root cause of gestational diabetes is wrong or unhealthy eating habits. Some women have to take insulin to control their diabetes. Exercise can also help in keeping the blood sugar level of a pregnant woman in control. Exercise helps in digestion and also balances the food intake. A pregnant lady can consult her doctor and can exercise once or twice a day regularly. Also, 30 minutes of intense workout is required at least 4-5 days a week. It could be any activity that helps in body movement.

A pregnant woman requires more food than a normal lady. A pregnant lady with gestational diabetes has to be very selective about her food choices and the nutrition she is getting from that food. Generally, one should consume plenty of seasonal fruits and vegetables. A moderate amount of fats and proteins should be consumed by a pregnant lady.

To stay healthy, whole grains such as pasta, rice, and bread can be eaten once in a while. Foods or soft drinks like juices, that contain a lot of sugar should be avoided as much as possible.

Carbohydrates are found in starchy and sugary food such as bread, rice, pasta, potatoes, fruit juice, corns, soda, candy, sweets, and much more. A woman should try consuming only healthy carbohydrates.

For measuring the number of carbohydrates consumed, a person can download some app to keep the count. Also, vegetables are good for health and can be eaten generously as it also keeps the blood sugar level in control.

 

  • HEALTHY FOOD

Choose food wisely. Food that is loaded with vitamins, minerals, fiber, and healthy carbohydrates should be consumed. Food like whole-grain bread and cereals, beans, grains like barley and oats, brown rice, whole-wheat pasta must be consumed in moderation. Pregnant ladies should prefer eating low carbs food and low-fat food like slices of bread, tortillas, muffins, and much more.

 

  • VEGEATABLES AND FRUITS

Vegetables and fruits can be eaten three to four times a day. Green leafy vegetables are healthy to eat. Boiled and frozen vegetables can be consumed like broccoli, lettuce, carrots, spinach, etc.

Any fruits can be consumed during pregnancy as all fruits are healthy and contain natural sugar.

Preferring seasonal fruits would be a better and a healthy option. Fruits can be chopped, frozen, or canned. Citrus fruits such as oranges, grapefruit are a good source of vitamins. Also, it would be better to consume fruits in their raw form than the juice of fresh fruits. No extra sugar should be added to fruits or juice.

 

  • DAIRY PRODUCTS

Women can consume 3-4 servings of dairy products in a day. Yogurt, cheese, milk, all the things can be consumed but in portions. Dairy products are rich in calcium, protein, and phosphorus which is very important for the time and the mother. Calcium keeps the bones strong and thus, results in a healthy delivery. Try avoiding added sugar in curd and milk.

 

  • PROTEIN

A high source of protein is found in meat, fish, eggs, nuts, and dry beans. The egg is also a great source of protein. It should not be consumed raw, either boiled or properly cooked. Fresh meat and chicken are best but raw can also be consumed sometimes. Boiled, grilled, or roasted chicken should be preferred rather than fries.

The nut is a rich source of protein with fewer fats. Handful nuts are important to consume daily. Another rich source is peanut butter. It should be consumed about 30 gm and not more than 3-4 times in a week.

These food items are rich in vitamin B, zinc, and protein.

 

  • SWEETS

Sweets should be consumed in small portions as they are rich in fats and sugar content. For cutting the cravings for sugar, one should prefer sugar-free sweets.

 

For better digestion, the size of the meals should be small and, the meals should be divided into at least five meals for the day, which should include three big meals and two small meals like snacks. No meal should not be skipped. The meals should be nutritious and healthy. Also, it should help in keeping the blood sugar level in control, not raise it.
